Darren's healthy obsession (or is it an uncontrollable addiction) for the saxophone began at an early age.

Hours and hours of practice and many years of study (with some of the top reed players in the country) resulted in a Bachelor of Music degree from Surrey University.

Finding the classical genre limiting to self expression, he turned to jazz, blues, funk and soul and discovered his mojo.

He's not looked back since...

Darren performs regularly with his show band, his acoustic/jazz trio and can sometimes be found entertaining the great british public at open mic nights and in town centres accompanied only by his trusty busking amp and a winning smile (and occasionally a few friends).

Equally at home in classical, jazz, funk and RnB genres, an accomplished sight reader and an inventive improviser, he is available for session work, deps or any other opportunity to show off, sorry, I meant perform.

Do you have a healthy obsession too?

Would you like to realise a personal ambition to play the saxophone?

You too can join that select band of people who get untold hours of pleasure blowing down a long tube.

Call me to discuss how we can turn your obsession into reality. You know its going to happen sooner or later... why delay the inevitable?

I believe that learning to play the saxophone should be a fun and richly rewarding experience.

My lessons are not taught from a set tutor book - they are tailored to the individual student. Teaching this way requires more effort from both student and teacher but yields significantly better results.

Within just a few weeks of instruction you will be improvising over blues and r'n'b tunes like a natural!

Learning any new skill takes time, patience and application. Unfortunately there are no short cuts to becoming the sax player of your dreams (believe me - I've looked for them). However taking the right approach to practice and using the techniques I will teach you will help to make significant improvements in your playing.

Give me a call to discuss where you're at and how we can get you to where you want to be.

First introductory lesson: FREE

After that:

£20 per half hour

£30 per hour

I teach from my home studio in Thakeham, West Sussex where I have access to all the materials I need to create a stimulating and productive lesson. I regularly use recordings to assess student progress and make use of backing tracks for improvisation.

Having a saxophone player at your wedding will really help to make your day a memorable one.

I have played at numerous weddings, as background music through the afternoon drinks reception and at the wedding breakfast. I can also play during the ceremony itself, if required.

I have a wide and varied repertoire which is a mix of well known jazz standards with some soul and motown thrown in for good measure. I am happy to take requests for special songs (given some notice!)

A sample of some of my wedding music can be found here

A couple of testimonials:

"Hi Darren, just wanted to say a big thankyou for helping make my daughter's wedding such a great day"

Mr Packham, July 2012

"We just wanted to thank you for making the day extra special - loads of people have commented on how good you were..."

Mr & Mrs Hill, September 2011

Guide Price: £325

(price is dependent upon location, length of playing time etc).

I usually play 2 x 45 minute sets (with background music in between) but am totally flexible and willing to work to your schedule to make your day special.

Please call with your wedding details so that I can provide you with a quote or alternatively make an enquiry using the booking form below:
